Superstitions and Faux Flowers

Silk flowers, faux flowers, plastic flowers, permanent botanicals, fake flowers- whatever the label your ears are tuned in to, man-made flowers have created a vast impact in floristry. However, that does not mean that faux flowers have or will replace natural flowers used in decorations and bouquets.

As much as the passion a fresh foliage and flora dealer has, a faux flower dealer has the same passion for ensuring quality botanical replications. It is known to many that such flowers cannot be distinguished from natural flowers by an untrained eye. Thus, faux flowers have been important and
admired by their audiences for a long time, for now, it is a story as old as time.

Do The Superstitions Prohibit Faux Flowers in Floristry?

Misunderstanding Feng Shui

Many believers of Feng Shui believe in a myth that one should insist on using natural florals to decorate a house, office or event. But this is as much as it is untrue then the other misunderstanding of Feng Shui lovers. Feng Shui never prohibits anyone from buying faux flowers, but it does say that wilted, dry flowers bring bad luck for households, which is never the case with artificial flowers.

If the flowers are fake, then people are too?

Secondly, the older generation believes that flowers decorating an indoor space resonate with the characteristics of the household owners. This is a far-fetched myth that cannot be pragmatically proven. There are humble and genuine people who can wish to decorate their houses with faux flowers because of the sophisticated advantages of permanent flora. It is very bad to brand people based on inanimate objects that they choose to have in their own house, isn’t it?

Placing a water bottle next to faux flowers

Thirdly, there is a belief that a water bottle (or an uruli (traditional cookware extensively used in the South Indian state of Kerala)) must be placed next to faux flowers and changed daily to give a sense of “life” to it. This is also a misleading superstition.

Will guests be offended by faux flowers?

Last but not least, another superstition believed by people is that having faux flowers indoors is an offence and less welcoming for guests. Just because the flowers used in indoor decorations are man-made, they perceive the host to be rude and pretentious, just like those flowers. This is again another myth because no faux flower bury considers their own personality traits when buying faux flowers; they only consider the occasion or location, budget, presentation and reliability of the arrangement.

So the next time you buy faux flowers, make sure you overlook these superstitions!
